Policy
Nippon Steel has many manufacturing bases all over Japan and are engaged in business activities rooted in local communities. In accordance with our attitude of maintaining harmony with local communities and society, we are promoting a wide range of activities, including promotion of environmental preservation, support in education, sports, and music culture, holding dialogues with shareholders and investors.

Initiatives and Achievements
Plant visits
As one of ways to enhance dialogue with shareholders, institutional investors, and residents in local communities, we regularly hold business strategies briefing sessions and visits to steelworks in various areas. We accept tours at each manufacturing site, open the premises of the steelworks to the general public for local festivals and sports events, and open the welfare facilities to the general public so that many people become familiar with our company.

Internship programs and the endowment of a university course
For many years, Nippon Steel has been internship opportunities to students to help them learn our business and gain some work experience.
We also endow a university course, which also contributes to one of our business strategies, “enhancement of our technological superiority.”
Acceptance of teachers
We participate in the “Private Sector Training Program for Teachers” organized by the Japan Institute for Social and Economic Affairs, and every year we invite teachers from elementary and junior high schools in various regions to visit our production line, introduce our efforts in human resource development and environmental activities, and provide safety education using VR. In fiscal 2024, we welcomed 111 teachers at 8 manufacturing sites.
Support for international exchange activities Kansai Association Switzerland-Japan
Nippon Steel supports a Japan-Switzerland youth exchange program.
The Kansai Association Switzerland-Japan was founded in 1982 with the aim of promoting exchange between the two countries and contributing to mutual understanding and friendship.We have been the primary source of support and management of its activities.
The primary activity is a program of youth exchanges between the two countries, which are sponsored jointly with the Osaka Board of Education. Six middle-school students from either Osaka City or Switzerland spend three weeks of their summer vacation in Switzerland or Osaka City. A group from Switzerland goes to Osaka one year, and one from Japan goes to Switzerland the next. During their stay abroad, the students have a home stay and visit their own embassy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other public institutions. The year after being sent, their families become hosts to receive Swiss students, and vice versa. Since the program launch in 1984, a total of 235 students have been sent abroad from both countries.
Activities in the support of sports as a social contribution
Nippon Steel manages or supports sports teams in disciplines such as judo, baseball, soccer, rugby, and volleyball, each deeply rooted in the local communities of its steelworks. These teams also contribute to their communities through various sports classes for children, coaching of junior teams, and making our athletic facilities available to local residents for games and training.
Support of music culture
Nippon Steel is actively supports music culture, particularly through the work of the Nippon Steel Arts Foundation. The Foundation manages Nippon Steel Kioi Hall in Tokyo, organize performances of its resident chamber orchestra, and promote Japanese traditional music. We also give the annual Nippon Steel Music Awards, established in 1990, to young classical music performers and to those who have contributed to the development of classical music.
